Discharge ink

Discharge is a screen printing technique that gives you a soft, breathable print even on dark textiles. Where normal screen printing requires a white carpet pad or a thicker print layer, discharge literally takes the color out of the fabric and replaces it with pigment. The result? A print that becomes one with the fabric - barely perceptible, even in large designs.

Why discharge ink?

Discharge ink is the solution if you want a soft, high-quality print on dark cotton. Instead of adding another layer of ink over the textile, discharge replaces the original color of the fabric with a new pigment. This creates a natural look and a print that you barely feel. So it really is ín the textile.

Appearance and wearing comfort

It is suitable for clothing brands and bands looking for an understated, vintage look. Consider a print that looks like it has always been there. In addition, it is also a fine technique for people who value wearing comfort: you get the look of a strong print, without the rubbery feel of a plastisol print or a water-based print with an additional underbase.

Best suited for cotton

Discharge ink works best on 100% cotton. On blends or synthetic materials, the print may turn out fuzzy or unpredictable. So for best results, pure cotton is a must.

Less predictable, but all the more unique

The color result of discharge may vary slightly from one job to another. This is because of the way the ink reacts to the fabric and its original color. It is precisely these small variations that give the print its own character. Thanks to our experience and knowledge of materials, we know exactly when this technique comes into its own and how to achieve the best results for your design.

The under color determines the result

Because discharge removes the original color from the fabric, the color of the textile plays a major role. Not every hue responds equally well – some colors give a bright print, while others are duller. As a result, discharge is not suitable for every garment, but it is ideal when you are looking for a subtle, deep print on dark cotton.
